SOME EFFECTS OF MALNUTRITION IN CHILDREN.# Be Educated.#

Malnutrition is a major problem children in most third-world countries face. The subject of malnutrition seems to be sidelined in most places and it's barely discussed. One thing to note is that; malnutrition in infants - which may lead to death- is very disastrous to our world since lots of human resources and potentials are lost.

Well, in this article I would to talk on the                                                 which I believe will open your eyes to see the danders of malnutrition in children and help fight malnutrition.

A child's growth is a good indicator of her nutrition, therefore knowledge on nutrition should be taken serious. Now,nutrition, as we know, is the study of foods and how our bodies use them. Nutrients are the part of the food which the body uses to build; produce; and to keep tissues healthy.

  • sugars
  • starches
  • fiber
  • fats
  • proteins
  • vitamins
  • minerals
  • water
Now bear in mind that the body uses these nutrients;
  • to build the body, produce fluids, and repair tissues.
  • to help chemical processes
  • to protect the body from disease.
A child who does not eat enough to cover his nutrient needs is undernourished. Undernourished children develop growth failure and may become malnourished. Many undernourished children lack energy, protein, and other nutrients. They develop protein-energy malnutrition or PEM. So when the word "malnutrition" is used, it usually mean PEM.
A child who continues to be undernourished and to have many infections, is likely to develop one of the three main types of severe protein-energy malnutrition:
  •  marasmus
  • kwashiorkor
  • marasmic kwashiorkor (a mixture of the two).
In our next article we shall delve deep into the three and be enlightened on how to deal.
